CHANDANA BRIJESH

Chandana’s inclination for “Bharathanatya” came naturally at a very young age. Hailing from a family of music and dance connoisseurs, she had her initial training under gurus, Smt.Vasanthalakshmi and Smt. Sangeetha Keshav.

With over two decades of dance acquaintance, a Masters degree in English Literature and a strong experience that aligns with the role of a performer, choreographer and a trainer, Chandana’s inclination for “Bharathanatya” came naturally at a very young age. Hailing from a family of music and dance connoisseurs, she had her initial training under gurus, Smt.Vasanthalakshmi and Smt. Sangeetha Keshav. Her passion for the art and her inherent talent were recognized and finely developed by her Guru, veteran danseuse and creative exponent, Dr. Padmaja Suresh of Aatmalaya, Bengaluru. She honed her skills in abhinaya under well-known guru, Smt. Bhanumati of Nritya Kalamandiram.

Graded artiste of Doordarshan and a sought after compere for programmes of dance and music, Chandana has travelled widely in India as a dancer and a nattuvanar rendering performances at prestigious platforms. She has been the recipient of “Nav Kiran” achievement award conferred by the Yog federation of India. She has been a part of various dance festivals held at Melbourne and Sydney.

Chandana aims at exploring the nuances of this wonderful and spiritual form of art and showcasing them before the young aspiring minds making way for innovative interpretations. She continues the tradition of the Tanjavur School of dance which has presented the field of Bharatanatya with some of the world’s best known dancers.

Chandana takes immense pride in being a member of a family of literary and social achievers – her mother, Smt. Bharathi Kasargod, a Kannada Sahithya Academy Award winner; her maternal grandfather, Sri.Samethanahalli Ramarao, a distinguished kannada writer and scholar; and her great grandfather, Sri. Rangarao kasargod, a visionary and founder of New English School, Honnavar.

“Sindhubhairavi Centre for Indian Arts and Culture,” is her recently established institute at Melbourne. It imparts training to children and adults in dance and facilitates personality development through hosting worshops on yoga, meditation and learning-oriented activities. The institute strives at showcasing the richness of Indian arts and culture to the multi-cultural Australian community and fostering a sense of harmony.
